Editorial Governance & Publication Standards
Complaints, Appeals & Corrections Policy
Nagore Puranam | International Journal for Tamil Studies
Nagore Puranam is committed to responsible publishing, fair editorial decisions, transparent communication and the integrity of published content. This policy establishes a procedure for receiving and addressing complaints, reviewing editorial appeals, correcting published material and responding to concerns relating to publication ethics.
1. Scope and Purpose
This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editorial board members, contributors and readers who wish to raise concerns relating to manuscript handling, editorial decisions, publication procedures, published articles or professional conduct associated with the journal.
2. Submission of Complaints
Complaints may concern delays in editorial communication, procedural inconsistencies, suspected plagiarism, authorship disputes, conflicts of interest, inaccurate publication information or other matters affecting editorial integrity.
Complaints should be submitted in writing to the journal's official editorial email address:
The complainant should provide a clear description of the concern, the relevant article or submission details, where applicable, and any supporting information available. Complaints will be assessed on their merits and handled with appropriate discretion.
3. Review and Resolution of Complaints
The editorial team will review complaints impartially, consider the available evidence and seek clarification from relevant parties where necessary. Matters involving an editorial conflict of interest should, wherever practicable, be reviewed by an appropriate person who is not directly involved in the matter.
The journal will endeavour to acknowledge complaints within seven working days and provide an update or response within a reasonable period, depending on the nature and complexity of the matter. Where additional investigation is required, the complainant may be informed of the expected next steps.
4. Appeals Against Editorial Decisions
Authors who believe that an editorial decision was affected by a factual misunderstanding, a procedural irregularity, an overlooked relevant consideration or a potential conflict of interest may submit a reasoned appeal.
Appeals should identify the manuscript, explain the grounds for reconsideration and provide relevant supporting information. An appeal will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriate independent editorial representative, where practicable. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee a reversal of the original decision, and the journal's decision following review will normally be final.
5. Corrections to Published Articles
Nagore Puranam recognises the importance of maintaining an accurate and reliable scholarly record. When a published article contains a significant factual, bibliographic, typographical or other error, the journal will assess whether a correction is appropriate.
Where necessary, a correction notice may be published and linked to the original article. The notice will describe the nature of the correction and provide sufficient information for readers to understand the change. Minor errors that do not affect the meaning or reliability of an article may not require a formal notice.
6. Retractions and Expressions of Concern
Where credible evidence raises serious concerns about the reliability, originality or ethical integrity of a published article, the journal will assess the matter in accordance with its Publication Ethics and Plagiarism Policy.
Depending on the findings, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction notice. Any such action will be proportionate to the evidence and the seriousness of the issue. Relevant notices will identify the affected publication and explain the reasons for the action, subject to applicable confidentiality and legal considerations.
7. Confidentiality and Fair Treatment
Complaints and appeals will be handled with appropriate confidentiality, subject to the requirements of a fair investigation and applicable law. All parties will be treated respectfully and given a reasonable opportunity to provide relevant information. Retaliation against individuals who raise genuine concerns in good faith is not consistent with the journal's editorial principles.
8. Relationship with Other Policies
This policy should be read alongside the journal's Publication Ethics Policy, Plagiarism Policy, Peer Review Policy, Editorial Policy and Copyright and Licensing Policy. Where a complaint involves possible research or publication misconduct, the relevant procedures and principles in those policies will also apply.
9. Policy Review
Nagore Puranam may review and update this policy when necessary to reflect improvements in editorial practice, publishing standards or applicable legal requirements. Any revised version will be published on the journal's website.
