Copyright and Licensing Policy
Nagore Puranam – International Journal for Tamil Studies
Nagore Puranam is committed to promoting Tamil language, literature, historical research, cultural studies and scholarly communication. This Copyright and Licensing Policy explains the principles governing ownership, permitted use, reproduction and distribution of material published on the journal's website. Authors, readers, researchers and other users are expected to respect the intellectual property rights associated with published content.
1. Copyright Ownership
Copyright in each published article, poem, literary contribution, research paper, review, image or other original work remains subject to the rights held by its author or other legitimate copyright owner, except where a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise.
Submission or publication in Nagore Puranam does not automatically transfer an author's copyright to the journal. Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the authority to submit and authorize publication of their work.
2. Licensing of Published Content
Unless a specific licence is displayed on an individual article or otherwise agreed in writing, users should not assume that published material is available for unrestricted reproduction, redistribution or commercial reuse.
Permission may be required before reproducing, translating, republishing, adapting or distributing an article or a substantial portion of its content. The applicable licence or written permission determines the scope of permitted use.
3. Rights and Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are expected to submit original work and to identify any material in which copyright belongs to another person or organisation. Authors must obtain the necessary permissions for third-party photographs, illustrations, tables, extracts or other protected material included in their submissions.
Authors should retain copies of relevant permissions and disclose any conditions that affect publication or subsequent reuse of their work. Publication does not remove an author's responsibility to respect applicable copyright law and the rights of others.
4. Author Reuse and Self-Archiving
Authors wishing to share, deposit, translate, adapt or republish their own published work should review the licence and any conditions applicable to that article. Where the licence does not expressly permit the proposed reuse, authors should seek written clarification or permission from the relevant rights holder.
When reuse is permitted, authors are encouraged to provide appropriate acknowledgement of the original publication, including the article title, author name, journal name and original website link where applicable.
5. Third-Party Materials
Content reproduced from external sources remains subject to the copyright and licensing conditions established by its respective rights holders. Publication of such material does not imply that Nagore Puranam owns it or grants permission for unrestricted reuse.
Authors must clearly acknowledge third-party sources and obtain permission wherever required. Users who wish to reuse third-party content should contact the original rights holder when permission is necessary.
6. Citation, Attribution and Academic Integrity
Readers and researchers may refer to published work for legitimate scholarly, educational and research purposes in accordance with applicable law and the conditions governing the material.
Proper attribution must be provided when quoting, discussing or referencing published content. Citation does not, by itself, authorize reproduction of material beyond what is permitted by the applicable licence or law. Plagiarism, misrepresentation of authorship and removal of source acknowledgements are unacceptable.
7. Restrictions on Reproduction and Distribution
Unless expressly permitted by the applicable licence, written authorization or applicable law, users must not:
- Republish an entire article or substantial portions of it without permission.
- Sell, commercially distribute or package published content without the necessary rights.
- Modify or adapt material in a manner that misrepresents the author's work or meaning.
- Remove copyright notices, author credits or source acknowledgements.
- Present another person's work as their own or falsely imply endorsement by the journal.
These restrictions do not limit uses that are expressly allowed by the applicable licence or permitted under relevant copyright law.
8. Permissions and Copyright Enquiries
Requests to reproduce, translate, republish, adapt or otherwise use material beyond the permissions already granted should be directed to the journal for clarification. Requests involving third-party material may need to be addressed to the relevant rights holder.
Please identify the material concerned, its author, the intended purpose of reuse and the proposed method of distribution when submitting a permissions enquiry. Written authorization should be obtained before proceeding whenever required.
9. Policy Review and Updates
Nagore Puranam may review and update this policy when necessary to reflect changes in editorial practice, publication procedures or applicable legal requirements. The version displayed on this website is the version readers should consult at the time of use.
Questions concerning the interpretation or application of this policy may be directed to the journal using the official contact details provided below.
Important Licensing Notice
The availability of an article on this website does not, by itself, mean that it may be copied, modified, redistributed or used commercially without restriction. Users should check the specific licence or obtain the required permission before undertaking any reuse that falls outside the rights granted by law or by the applicable licence.
Copyright and licensing matters are governed by the rights of the relevant copyright holders, the applicable licence and applicable law. For clarification, contact Nagore Puranam through its official email.
